Process Diary

Everyone on campus hated Jane because she couldn’t draw. Or more than that because drawing wasn’t the only thing she couldn’t do. Jane couldn’t paint or sculpt or sew or design or photograph. What are you doing in a fine arts school Jane? You don’t belong here. Lugging around that process diary like as though something’s in it. Fucking idiot.

hansel&gretel

hansel&gretel lived with their beautiful loving mother and handsome tyrannical stepfather, who betrayed and tricked their mother and left them both in the woods to die. but hansel&gretel were no ordinary child. they had learned a great deal from their stepfather during those difficult and unhappy early years, and they chose to never find their way back home, but instead wander the wide world in search of their fortune. they forgot their past immediately, and all attachments abandoned, walked bravely onward with steps as light as the sweet breezes at their back. the pretty little forest birds were blissfully twittering Prokofiev while here and there flashed the dewy eye of a fawn or the happy chatter of neighbourly squirrels.

after a day and a night and a ride on a swan on a lake, they had become hungry, and followed their nose to a witch’s gingerbread house. the witch, a hideous old hag, seemed very surprised to discover them knocking at her door. “oh! you are a very strange small person,” she cried, “how did you find my house, so deep in the wood?”

Beginnings are awkward. For anyone but a fawn. Even its first slippery steps are graceful. We are not natural in this way, but of our own make, and it is necessary to come to terms. It seems inappropriate to relate remembrances of angelic visitation. By this encounter I was given constant wakefulness for the course of my life.

i’d been noticing a problem with my head for some time, but i hadn’t been able to get anyone to listen to me about it. i’ve always been told that it is a good idea to go to the doctor if you have funny symptoms going on with your body, like new things happening that you can’t remember having experienced before. most people seem to think this is the right thing to do.

mute revenge

for use as a teaching tool, The Curator had determined to disinter Postmodernism, and conduct a little black magic to bring it back to life, or at least undeath, with the additional defibrillative properties of Modernism, and the general aid of his research assistant (as required). they set off for its resting place on a fine, sunny day, with a picnic packed.

art conceals art

although Pygmalion had always believed women should be held in esteem, by his middle years it had become clear to him that he was not himself able to think well of them. no matter how he tried they appeared to be always filled with rubbish, and in never seeming worth the effort of vacuous chit-chat and other idle flatteries various courtships had gone awry, leaving him unmarried and with no companion for his leisure.

Lust

one day Aphrodite took it in mind to get this specific bunch of virgins raped, because they belonged to the worship of one of her siblings who had incensed her irritation. so she went into the forest in search of a likely candidate to commit these crimes, a particular woodsman she had heard of, or perhaps sometimes observed, by the name of John.

sacrifices

in search of the well of inspiration, John had walked far into the dry land, until he had lost count of the weeks. for some time he had been favoured with the company of the feral goats of the fringes of that place, chewing on their dry sticks and turning towards him the surfaces of their yellow eyes, but before long all that remained was the dim sun lurking on the horizon of that dusty sky. although technically desert it was not hot, and he never seemed to become very thirsty, but after running out of food his hunger gnawed at him. finding his clothes and pack to be inedible, he saw no further use for them, and discarding all worldly possessions wandered on naked and unburdened.

you always have a choice

once upon a time there was a girl who was entirely alone and had suffered many misfortunes in life. possessing no money, education, or other prospects, things were very bad for her, and she decided to kill herself. having determined upon this resolve, and in anticipating all of the pain and inconvenience of self-destruction, tears of pure desolation flowed from her eyes; and from the tears sprang a fairy.
