Sometimes two people being seated behind the window, but usually only one. The second being perhaps superfluous to the task. And every now and then, maybe several times a day or maybe once a week, regardless of the number of those waiting, someone or something talking to the person behind the window (maybe sharing a little chuckle), and then opening the door beside the window and emerging from it into the waiting room. And calling one of our winning Lottery numbers. The waiting one who was called to being always a human, but the caller not always being recognisably human. Most of the time the caller being a robot, or maybe just a person in a robot costume. Very rarely, the caller being a very handsome man or very beautiful woman, but more often than that being an ordinary or even an ugly looking man or woman, either young or old; on other, even stranger occasions, being (for example) a North American black bear, or a hall stand, or a towering golden ionic column (or person dressed in such a costume as to appear to be these things). But regardless, the one who was called never hesitating to rise and meet their caller.

in the back seat, Humphrey Bogart was taking a really long time to say goodbye to Lauren Bacall. a really, really long time, and seated behind the wheel, Ingrid Bergman was becoming impatient. when she glanced in the rear view mirror to see what was taking so long, you could tell how impatient she was getting, because of the furrow in her brow. in a flash of inspiration, she grabbed a handy wrapper-filled McDonalds bag that Lauren Bacall had thrust at her earlier, and noisily proceeded to fill it with vomit. there was no hiding what she had done; the stench of vile things in the cabin was overwhelming, as you could tell by the expressions on the faces of the passengers.

Straight On Til Morning

“I have to do this,” said John, with the air of someone who was trying to feel sorry.

“you need to be careful”, said Jane. “i dont think you know what youre getting yourself into. the price might be more than you’re willing to pay. you might be lost forever, you might never come back”. He hadn’t seen her in weeks, but John thought that she looked more beautiful than ever in the fading daylight beaming through the kitchen window. He thought that she would never really know about her beauty.

“I’m sorry,” he said, just as though he was trying even harder, “I love you, but I can’t be a good artist without going there.” Jane looked tired suddenly, and John realised that it was because she was defeated. She flicked a few sorrowful droplets from her gentle, intelligent eyes as she stood up. “goodbye”, she said, and kissed him on the face. “please eat a sandwich John, you look like shit”. She walked out the door and closed it softly behind her, and he knew that was the last time he would ever see her walk out. No one else was left to wonder or worry.

although i respect that i have no idea what its really like to experience incest, i went ahead and composed this depiction of it because i think that refraining from discussing it does nothing to stop it from happening, it just makes it seem like it happens less often than it does, and it turns the whole thing into a taboo of a kind that hurts victims by silencing them.

i also think that in making art, we choose to believe as one of the tasks of what we are doing that it is possible to comprehend and communicate subjectivities other than our own, and that we have to be brave and to try to do that even when its difficult.

if this piece of writing deeply offends anyone who reads it, let me know and i will take it down. thank you for checking out my stuff anyway!
